Origin: A segment of chromosome 10 was transferred from LEW into the SS background. Two congenic strains, designated S.L4 and S.L5, that were previously shown to have trapped 2 BP QTLs, were used to derive congenic substrains. The F2 rats were genotyped for markers that resided in a region of interest. Each rat was then backcrossed to an SS rat to duplicate the fragment.
