This is any condition in which the main influencing factor is unpredictable chronic mild stress, an experimental model of depression that involves exposing laboratory animals (usually mice or rats) at unpredictable times over several weeks to a series of minor-intensity stressors. This process results in the development of a number of behavioral alterations in a large majority of animals, including anhedonia (loss of pleasure) and apathy.
