Measurement of the amount of a radioactive nucleoside, such as tritiated (3H-) thymidine, incorporated into white blood cells during a specified period of time following treatment with a substance that induces mitosis resulting in increased cell proliferation. The level of nucleoside incorporation is proportional to the amount of cell proliferation and is used as a measure of the latter.
