A calculated measurement in which the number of lymphocytes expressing the CD25 antigen on their surface in a specified sample of blood is divided by the total number of lymphocytes in the sample, and the result presented as a ratio, fraction, quotient or percentage. CD25 is the alpha chain of the IL-2 receptor and is used as a marker of activated T cells, although it can also be found on other leukocytes including some monocytes, B cells, thymocytes and myeloid precursor cells. CD25 is expressed on a subset of resting T cells but at a much lower level than found on activated cells.
