beta cell area to total pancreatic islet area ratio
A calculated value in which the area occupied by beta cells is divided by the total area of the pancreatic islet and the result presented as a ratio, fraction, quotient or percentage, thus normalizing it to the size of the pancreatic islet(s). A beta cell is a type of basophilic cell that makes up most of the bulk of the pancreatic islets (i.e. the islets of Langerhans) and secretes insulin.
