Definition:This is any condition in which the main influencing factor is phenobarbital, a barbiturate that acts as a nonselective central nervous system depressant. Phenobarbital potentiates GABA action on GABA-A receptors, modulates chloride currents through receptor channels, and inhibits glutamate induced depolarizations.
