Definition:any structural anomaly of the synovial hinge joint formed between the femur, tibia, and patella; it involves two articulations: the tibiofemoral joint, connecting the proximal tibia to the distal femur, and the patellofemoral joint, connecting the patella to the femur; the knee joint allows flexion and extension of the leg, as well as slight medial rotation in end extension, and lateral rotation when unlocking the knee
