Definition:decreased blood level of myoglobin, a low molecular weight oxygen binding heme protein that is normally found exclusively in heart and skeletal muscle cells; in blood, myoglobin is bound primarily to plasma globulins, a complex which is filtered by the kidneys; if the plasma concentration exceeds the plasma binding capacity, myoglobin begins to appear in the urine; myoglobin is rapidly released into the bloodstream after muscle damage, and thus can be a useful biomarker in the early phases of heart or skeletal muscle injury
