Definition:a progressive disease of the bone marrow where neoplastic bone marrow stem cells lodge and grow at sites outside the bone marrow, and the marrow is replaced by fibrous (scar) tissue; may lead to anemia, enlarged spleen, the presence of nucleated red blood cells and immature granulocytes in the blood, and the occurrence of extramedullary hematopoiesis in the spleen and liver
