The Clinical Measurement Ontology (CMO), Measurement Methods Ontology (MMO), and Experimental Condition Ontology (XCO) are currently being developed at the Rat Genome Database. For more information about these vocabularies please see Shimoyama et al. Three ontologies to define phenotype measurement data. Front Genet. 2012;3:87. A method of determining the concentration, relative activity or effects of a biologically active substance in a sample based on the effect of the sample on the reproduction or multiplication of cells, especially of cells which depend for their viability and/or reproduction on a particular substance of interest. The amount or activity of that substance in the sample is calculated by measuring the effect of the sample on the test cell culture compared with the effect of a reference standard.
