Definition:Any method which measures aldosterone, a mineralocorticoid steroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex with action in the renal tubule to retain sodium, conserve water by reabsorption, and increase urinary excretion of potassium, in plasma, the fluid portion of the blood in which the particulate components are suspended.
Comment:For use when the specific method of measuring the aldosterone, such as ELISA, EIA or RIA is not given.
