Definition:A form of atomic spectroscopy in which one observes the emission of light at discrete wavelengths by atoms which have been electronically excited by collisions with other atoms and molecules in a gas or sprayed solution heated in a flame, such as an air/acetylene flame (~2300 degrees C).
