ONTOLOGY REPORT - ANNOTATIONS

Term:symbiont entry into host cell
go back to main search page
Accession:GO:0046718 term browser browse the term
Definition:The process by which a symbiont breaches the plasma membrane or cell envelope and enters the host cell. The process ends when the symbiont or its genome is released into the host cell.
Comment:Viral attachment to the host cell is not part of viral entry in GO because virus attachment does not always lead to viral entry: attachment can also result in the virion being carried by the host cell to another location.
Synonyms:narrow_synonym: entry of virus into host cell;   phage translocation;   viral entry into host cell;   viral penetration;   virion penetration;   virion penetration into host cell;   virus entry into host cell
 alt_id: GO:0019063
 xref: VZ:936 "Virus entry"
