Accession:GO:0005243 term browser browse the term
Definition:A wide pore channel activity that enables a direct cytoplasmic connection from one cell to an adjacent cell. The gap junction can pass large solutes as well as electrical signals between cells. Gap junctions consist of two gap junction hemi-channels, or connexons, one contributed by each membrane through which the gap junction passes.
Synonyms:exact_synonym: innexin channel activity
 narrow_synonym: innexin
 broad_synonym: intercellular channel
 related_synonym: connexin
 alt_id: GO:0015285;   GO:0015286
xref: reactome:R-HSA-190681 "Connexin oligomerization in endoplasmic reticulum membrane";   reactome:R-HSA-375330 "Connexin 45/Connexin 36 mediated neuronal gap junction communication";   reactome:R-HSA-375339 "Pannexin 1/Pannexin2 mediated neuronal gap junction communication";   reactome:R-HSA-375340 "Connexin 62 mediated neuronal gap junction communication";   reactome:R-HSA-375342 "Connexin 36 mediated neuronal gap junction communication"
