Definition:The amount of bile acid in a specified sample of serum, the clear liquid that separates from blood after it has clotted completely, i.e. blood plasma from which fibrinogen has been removed. Bile acid is any member of a group of hydroxy-5beta-cholanic acids concurring in bile, where they are present as the sodium salts of their amides with glycine or taurine.
