A protein is any of a group of complex organic compounds containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur consisting of alpha-amino acids joined by peptide linkages. A peptide is a low molecular weight compound composed of at least two amino acids joined by peptide linkages.
