07/01 - RGD releases the Respiratory Disease Portal

Millions of adults and children around the world are affected by respiratory diseases.  According to the American Lung Association, asthma is the third leading cause of hospitalization among children in the US, and overall, COPD is the third leading cause of death.  Understanding the importance of research into respiratory diseases and the vital role that rat research plays in understanding respiratory physiology and pathology, RGD has just released a new Disease Portal for respiratory disease.

RGD's Respiratory Disease Portal is an integrated resource for information on genes, QTLs and strains associated with a variety of acute and chronic respiratory diseases such as Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Hypertension.  On the front page, view data for all respiratory states or refine your selection using a pull-down list of diseases.  A single click on a disease will provide a summary of the associated genes, QTLs, and strains.  The GViewer image gives a genome-wide view of human, rat and mouse data, and color-coded synteny maps allow comparison between species.  Lists of objects annotated to the selected disease term are linked to comprehensively curated RGD records providing additional functional and genomic annotation.  The Respiratory Disease Portal also provides one-click access to data on Phenotypes, Biological Processes and Pathways associated with respiratory diseases.  Tools, Related Links and Rat Strain Models pages link to additional resources of interest to respiratory disease researchers.
